I am thankful that each year we are called to remember the soldiers who fought for our freedom. The Bible clearly states that when someone lays down their life for another, the greatest love that can be shown is displayed. Our soldiers displayed their great love for us when they laid down their lives for our freedom.
It seems like a contradiction to say that there are times when freedom must be defended and even fought for. David had to fight Goliath for Israel's freedom. The defying armies of the Philistines would not have only won that immediate war, but given license they would have corrupted the whole world with their sinister ways and lifestyle so that in the end, the self destruction of many or all would have taken place.
I am thankful for men like David who fought valiantly against the destructive forces of his time. I am thankful for the men who like David stood up and said “Is there not a cause?" Many of us have lost sight of the importance of this.
It may be well this weekend to consider just how it could be, had the wars not been fought to bring into check ruthless leaders like Hitler. Some of us may not exist today if men like that were allowed to carry out their destructive schemes.
I will always remember my uncle showing me the wounds he received while fighting in the war. He fought for my freedom and then carried the scars to his death. For that I am thankful and I shall always remember.
Along with that I am so thankful for the greatest warrior of all time, Jesus Christ, who fought the greatest battle of all time by laying down His life for our freedom. He gave His life, "the just for the unjust" in order to bring us out of the bondage of sin and into abundant life. Let us remember with thanksgiving!
