When we think of open door living in Biblical terms, it is about doors of opportunity opening, allowing us to walk into an atmosphere of favour or success.
In the book of Revelation when Jesus spoke to the seven churches, He had some form of rebuke for almost all of them, excepting one church and that was the church of Philadelphia. This church had in front of it an open door that God seemed to take charge of, allowing none to tamper with it. Opportunity and favour was before them in all they would do. Even Satan had to bow down and be subject to them because of that favour.
What gave them that kind of favour and authority? Was it program, pizzazz or personality? Was it the latest attraction, the best dog and pony show in town? Or was it something else? We are told it was something else and that something else was love! Nothing attracts the favour of God more than love. All of the other stuff is O.K. but without love, it is nothing. Some would say that unity is where God commands His blessing and that is true. However, love is at the core of true unity. Dwelling in love will enable us to dwell in unity forever. If we love God and each other, God dwells there and where God is, there is favour.
What is the bottom line? May we be known in the church, as family, and as people where Jesus has no rebuke because love is the most paramount in all we think and do.
