The Love of Money or The Love of God

Paul warned Timothy concerning what the love of money can do in our lives. Paul spoke of people who just went after the gold and pierced themselves with many sorrows and in some instances end up in destruction. Money is not the root of all evil; however the love of it is. When we covet after it, when we love money, we are in danger of having less love for God then we should. Money itself will disappoint us and not bring us satisfaction. However, God Himself will never disappoint us, and He alone can satisfy our souls and give us the necessary things we need in life. There are ways we can guard ourselves from the love of money. Put God first. Love God above everything else. Love His word. His word is a protection to us and leads us in His ways. Let God direct your financial affairs. Follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. In your spending make sure you give what belongs to God to God. Do not rob God on what belongs to Him. The greatest cure for covetousness is giving. Covetousness is idolatry. When we give, we deliver ourselves from sin. Put your finances at God’s disposal and say, “God whatever You want to do through me today with my finances, I yield that to You.” In doing this we can have daily joy in giving and serving others. It boils down to this; either we love money or we love God, we cannot serve God and serve man. We serve God with our money; money can be a wonderful gift if used to serve God. So, to have adequate finances is a wonderful thing. We have God’s provision, we serve our families, we serve our neighbour, and we serve other people in this world because we are adequate to deal with them. Money can be our friend if we use it the right way. Bottom line, love God and spend your money where He wants you to spend it. Enjoy life to the fullest.
