Gratitude for What God Has Given

We are celebrating God’s beautiful British Columbia, an outstanding part of God’s wonderful creation.

One can hardly imagine what the explorers went through to discover this great province. Following rivers, riding the rapids, scaling the mountains was no small feat. Prince George was established as a fur trading post back in 1807 because some people had a vision for this to happen and look what we have today. Then came the challenge of roads and railroads. In 1871, B.C. became the sixth province to join Confederation.

B.C. is richly endowed with resources which are exported all over the world. From this perspective we have a lot to give because of what we have been given. Our greatest resources, as anywhere, are the peoples who have settled here from far and near. We are truly a multi-cultural province wherein there is being cultured a deep appreciation for a mosaic of all kinds of different people, making a beautiful picture of many colours when put together. Without God and God’s help, we acknowledge that we would not have what we have today. We deeply appreciate all that we have: the beauty, the people, the resources, the opportunities and the majestic province that we have with such diversity. As we open our eyes each day, may we give thanks for all that God has done and given to us to fully enjoy.

Prayer for B.C. Lord today we give You thanks for our great province of beauty, resource and great people. We thank You that You are Lord of this province. Thank you for those who give leadership in government, church, business, education, the arts and all components that make British Columbia what it is. Forgive us for failing to be grateful at times. Forgive us for abusing and wasting what You have given us at different times. Forgive us for not blessing as we could with what You have given us. Bless us now to be a blessing. Make this province rich in the Word of God and the gospel. Grant to us the fullness of the Spirit to do Your will in this world. Give wisdom to our leaders in government, that we may live a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and righteousness.
